Hawai'i day two

I've decided to basically do a summary post at the end of each day for my trip here.
Dinner last night was wonderful - they were having a beer festival so our pints were only $2 instead of nearly $7 (bonus!). We had tempura ahi for an appetizer, P had mahi mahi with an IPA burre blanc and I had shrimp.
We were so tired we went to bed at 9pm local. And slept until the alarm went off at 5:30am. My poster presentation was this morning at 7, so I got to the conference room around 6:30. I attached my poster to the wall and grabbed a croissant and some fruit. My poster was the second in my group to be presented and I think it went pretty well. There was some good discussion of what we did and where we were going to go next, overall people seemed interested in the research. After we had moderated presenations, I had to stay by my poster for another 1/2 hour or so, so people could wander through and ask questions. And people did show some interest.
After that I made myself a cup of earl grey and when into another room to get ready for the T H Sheldon memorial lecture - given by Mike Roizen. His talk was abolutely amazing. I was pleased to discover that many of the lifestyle changes P and I have been making are things that he has been advocating. It is amazing the data that actually exists out there about how small changes in diet, exercise, stress and tobacco use can make major impacts on your life. After the lecture I went to a panel discussion about Pediatric Anesthesia and it's impact on neurologic development in children - an area that is a major focus of current animal research, and now trying to get some human data.
Meanwhile, P was hanging out on the beach and swimming in the ocean.
I met up with him around 1230 for lunch and then headed back to the conference center to take down my poster. We did a little shopping in the area of stores around the resort - I got myself some nice pearl jewelry, we got something for A and our niece, a few birthday gifts, a hat for me and P, some local designer shirts for P and two ties for him. Right now I'm relaxing the the room while he's sitting on our balcony reading. We're going to the resort-run luau in about an hour. I'm looking forward to that.
Tomorrow - I've got more conference stuff in the morning, P is going to hike Diamond Head and then we're going on a submarine tour. I think I'll be getting in my beach time tomorrow as well (pray I don't get a sunburn).
Hope everyone is enjoying themselves as much as I am.
